Abstract
Terahertz non-destructive evaluation has attracted significant interest for its ability to enable three-dimensional imaging, particularly for inspecting the interiors of components that may be ordinarily opaque or resistant to other three-dimensional techniques. This form of radiation is non-ionizing and non-contact, which ensures safe measurements and presents a viable alternative to X-rays for NDE measurements of biocompatible implants. A methodology for the modeling and simulation, visualization, and interpretation of THz wave reflection echoes for biocompatible implant quality assurance and control is presented in this article. Compared to experimental data from UHMWPE disc samples of TTK Chitra TC2 mechanical heart valve, the simulation results indicate excellent agreement, and the approach has been demonstrated to be valid for NDE measurements of biocompatible implants.
