Abstract
One of the challenges within the reliability evaluation, is the fact that every inspection situation should be evaluated separately. The evaluation of a non-destructive testing application is depending on a various number of different influences, including geometry, material, and testing equipment. An obvious fact will be mentioned a lot within the selling process of NDT equipment. But on the other hand, it is often ignored in the planning and realization of reliability evaluations, due to the cost of the evaluation data set, e.g. through reference parts. Mentioned fact is in the center of the evaluation of NDT application for additive manufactured components. The main reason for Additive Manufacturing (AM), the single lot production, is an almost impossible task for the reliability evaluation. This article will discuss the topic reliability evaluation of NDT application for additive manufactured components, starting with the need for the evaluations, according to the quality management view. Followed by the evaluation of the possibilities to enable NDT equipment to gain reliable results despite the small lots and ending with an optimistic outlook within the NDE 4.0 framework.
